Instructions for forum use

To register at the forums you need an invite code, please email jake@jakenoblewebs.co.uk for the invite code, please include "GL5 FORUM" in the email subject, also provide your full name and GL5 Membership number.

Anybody who has not used a forum before should read these simple instructions just to familiarise themselves with its structure and features.

Firstly any GL5 member who wants to use the forum should register. Registration is simple, you just fill in the form with your desired username, your e-mail and the password you wish to use for your account. As well as this a grainy grey image will appear fill in the box below this image with the letters and numbers that appear in this images. Finally the preferences at the bottom of the page let you set your language and whether you want to recieve e-mails when someone repies to a topic of yours.

As some of you may know the old Notice Board had several unwanted posts, by requiring users to register we can cut out these posts completely. Users must register to post a new thread, but guests can look at the GL5 notice board without registering.

The second reason why there is a new forum, is because it provides a more structured and formal method of discussing topics. Rather than having one huge notice board different categories are separated, within these categories new 'posts' or 'threads' are created by users, like yourself. These threads have a subject heading and some content e.g. a question or some information.

As an example you may have found a good book regarding the construction of a specific wagon, you'd go to the Hints and Tips section, click 'New Post' (notice you have to 'log-in' in order to create a new post) fill in the details and submit. The information you entered regarding the book is then saved for other users to find and use.

You can also search the forum which can be extremely useful.

Finally some advanced features, quotes, images and URL's (web site links). These are all used in the same way. When creating a post, just under the section where you enter a Subject, there are buttons saying Quote, img and URL. Click one of these buttons and one of the following will appear [quote], [img] or [url], this is known as a tag and marks the 'start'. After you have done this copy the link to the website, image or the quote, then click the button again and you should have something like this e.g. [quote]Your quote goes here[/quote] . This [/quote] marks the end of your quote tag. After the end tag you can carry on writing as usual.

If there are any problems with the forum or you are having trouble using it please e-mail me at jake@jakenoblewebs.co.uk
